The Artist Behind the Pencil

I’m Chris Schain — a pencil artist based in the U.S. who believes that the most powerful stories don’t need words. They just need texture, light, and a little graphite.

I began drawing at a young age, pulling inspiration from comic books, Saturday morning cartoons, pop culture, and sports. I graduated from the University of Alabama with a Business degree and pursued a career in tech consulting, but the art was never far from my heart.

Today, I specialize in creating hand-drawn  original artwork that celebrates passion, history, personal legacy and the things that matter. From legendary sports moments to quiet, intimate memories, my art is rooted in capturing what matters most — and making it last forever.

People often ask me, “Why pencil?” My answer is simple: pencil is raw, honest, and permanent. It allows me to focus entirely on emotion and expression, without distraction.

I draw what moves me, and I believe, many of us. You should feel an emotional connection to a piece of art. If you don’t, it’s not the piece for you.

My Style and Inspiration

As a pencil artist, my work blends realism and emotion. I’m known for high-contrast, detail-rich drawings that often revolve around masculine themes — sports icons, patriotic symbols, classic Americana, and meaningful commissions that speak to legacy and pride.

Many of my collectors are sports fans, veterans, or families looking to preserve a cherished memory. Whether it’s a player walking off the field, a historic military figure, or a commissioned drawing of someone’s father or pet, I aim to give each piece a soul.

Every piece begins with a reference image and a conversation. I ask about the moment, what it means to you, and how you want it remembered. From there, I layer pencil on paper until your vision becomes a permanent, tangible tribute.

This isn’t just art — it’s a connection between generations. A statement piece. A personal heirloom.

Craftsmanship and Process

Each drawing I create is the result of hours of focused, intentional work. My commissioned pencil drawings are hand-drawn using professional-grade materials, including high-quality Bristol board and archival graphite pencils. I use blending stumps, erasers, and layering techniques to build depth and emotion into every detail.

I don’t use filters, AI, or digital shortcuts. What you get is entirely made by hand — a piece of original artwork with character, precision, and permanence.

My process is collaborative. Whether you’re commissioning a gift, a portrait, or a piece of custom sports art, I guide you every step of the way — from concept to final delivery. You’ll approve the initial sketch, receive regular updates, and know exactly when to expect your finished drawing.

I treat every project with the same level of detail and respect, whether it’s a portrait of your grandfather, a Super Bowl MVP, or a beloved pet.
